Sex års väntan är lång tid

Six years of waiting is a long time

A woman arrives at Stockholm Central Station in 1948.

The pictures could have remained so briefly and boringly described in the caption, if not... I suddenly recognized her in a picture while browsing through old copies of the magazine Filmjournalen.

I was actually looking for a report about the actor Martin Ljung, but when I saw the picture of the woman in the period fur coat, I recognized it.

The pictures that I have had lying around in my “to do” folder for six years. I often scan old negatives to see who or what they represent. Most of the time it works out, but in this case it took a record long time. It has happened that over the years I have been really happy and that I have managed to find out who, and the wait has been long. Now finally.

The young woman turns out to be the English actress Hazel Court, who arrives at Stockholm Central Station on her visit to Sweden. As I read more about her, it turns out that her story is quite interesting.

She has been described as the ultimate Scream Queen due to her work with both horror film producer Hammer Films and horror film director Roger Corman. She is the only actress to have worked with all of horror film's leading men - Boris Karloff, Peter Cushing, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee.

But Hazel Court was so much more than a Scream Queen! She was one of England's top film actresses in the 40s and 50s and one of the world's top pin-ups. Hazel went on to have a notable career in American television in the 60s (Bonanza, Dr. Kildare, Rawhide, Mission Impossible, The Twilight Zone, Burke's Law, The Wild Wild West and others).

Her visit has nothing to do with film this time, but she will be showing off her clothes and herself of course.

She is photographed at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm. It is so practical when the hotel's name appears in the beautiful monogram on the cups and china. It is so much easier to know where…

Hazel Court was 82 years old and died in 2008.

Eugen Semitjov in new feature documentary

Who he is is probably a reasonable question for many, but briefly, he can be described as the most successful and innovative cartoonist of the 1960s. Talented and creative with space as his specialty. For those who remember the cartoon series Allan Kämpe, he was the father of it.

His illustrations were common in weekly magazines during the 1960s. The Space Age.

The beautiful, imaginative space environments that were often ahead of their time. In 1972, he received the prestigious Great Journalist Prize.

Now filmmaker Micke Engström has made a feature-length documentary about him that will premiere in April. “The Dream of a Better World.” It will be exciting to see the film and learn even more about the creative genius.

Eugen Semitjov lived only 64 years and died in 1987. Something must be written about him and I have the pictures.

On today's date

For those of you who follow me on X, Facebook or my blog, you know that I often get caught up in events on today's date. Who was born, what was inaugurated and other historical things I want to see from a contemporary perspective. I find it interesting to highlight the often very well-known from the corner of oblivion and remind you that they have sometimes made a pretty solid mark on history.

Today it is the turn of English actress Jean Simmons to be noticed because she was born on today's date; January 31, 1929.

Photographer Kristoffersson was quick to travel the world after the end of World War II in Europe. He spent several months in England, photographing everyone from Nobel laureate Alexander Fleming to actors like Laurence Olivier.

London's cutest girl. That's the headline in the magazine Filmjournalen in 1946, and it's Jean Simmons. She's only 16 at the time but already has a film contract. Maybe a bit of a cheat since her uncle was the powerful film company director J. Arthur Rank... Jean Simmons died in 2010 at the age of 80.

In my online store right now

Yesterday I came across some glass negatives that I thought looked interesting. After a little research, it turned out to be the environment around Rindögatan in Stockholm.

A very detailed picture that, for the car enthusiast, contains lots of cars from the 1930s and 1940s. Svenskt Tenn Josef Frank lived on the street.

Now the old beautiful picture is a beautiful motif as a poster.
