Midnattssolsrallyt 1963

Midnight Sun Rally 1963

A Swedish rally classic. The Swedish Rally to the Midnight Sun. A car race during the heyday of rallying, starting in 1950, which is forever associated with everything rally stands for: gravel, dust, classic cars, etc. Until 1964, the race was held every year with all conceivable cars from this period. The winner received the Midnight Sun Trophy. A walking prize from the silversmith Erik Fleming.

The start is underway. In 1963, the start takes place as in every other year at Karlberg Castle in Stockholm. There is a festive atmosphere and the drivers enjoy the attention. Both women and men take part and a winner is to be chosen in both the women's and men's classes. Sylvia Österberg wins the women's class and Berndt Jansson in his Porsche Carrera 2 wins the men's class, followed by rally legend Erik Carlsson and Bo Ljungfeldt.

Who is who. I'll be the first to admit that my eye for cars and drivers is a bit off, but I wasn't even born when the race took place. If you know who's who, please get in touch and give us some names and details. That way you'll contribute to history. Here you see the pictures from the 1963 edition of the race.
