The upbringing of a princess. Her upbringing was characterized by good upbringing and education in both language and household skills. She attended Jenny Åkerström-Söderström's household school with her sister Princess Märtha. It also became the source of the cookbook Prinsessornas kokbok. The book contained a green cake that the princesses are said to have been particularly fond of. This later came to be called Princess cake.

The sisters all married into royalty. Princess Märtha with the Crown Prince and later King Olav V of Norway. Margaretha married the Danish Prince Axel in 1919. Princess Astrid married the Belgian Crown Prince Leopold in 1926.

An event that received great attention at the time as Astrid was very popular. There was great grief in Sweden and in Belgium and the funeral that took place on September 3, 1935 was attended by thousands of weeping Brussels residents.
