The new star of the Saltkråkan: Skrållan makes his entrance on the big screen
On November 27, 1965, it was time for the Swedish film premiere of Tjorven and Skrållan , the second feature film about life on Saltkråkan. The audience had already taken Tjorven, Båtsman and the other islanders to their hearts – now they got to meet a new little protagonist: Skrållan.

The film is based on Astrid Lindgren's script and was directed by Olle Hellbom, who was also behind the first film. It was shot in the spring of 1965 on the island of Norröra in Norrtälje municipality, the same place that has become synonymous with Saltkråkan.

A mischievous newcomer
In the film, Malin and Peter have married and had their first child. Skrållan quickly turns out to be a curious and mischievous little girl who likes to run off on her own adventures. This leads to both concern and laughter for the family and neighbors on the island.

Behind the scenes
During filming, several film tricks were used to create the right atmosphere. One example is the rain scenes – when the weather did not cooperate, the film crew had to use a water hose to simulate rain. In a well-known image from the shoot, Maria Johansson (Tjorven) and Kristina Jämtmark (Stina) stand under a large umbrella, while water sprays down from above. Cinematographer Kalle Bergholm can be seen at the camera, in the middle of working. The image was published in Svensk Damtidning no. 25 that same year and clearly shows how creatively the team worked to get the right feeling.

Famous faces
The cast is filled with familiar names: Maria Johansson as Tjorven, Torsten Lilliecrona as Melker, Louise Edlind as Malin and Torsten Wahlund as Peter. Newcomer Skrållan is played by Kajsa Dandenell, who with her charm became a favorite among the audience.

Family movie for everyone
With a running time of 93 minutes and a child-friendly age limit , Tjorven and Skrållan became an obvious family film. It followed up the success of Tjorven, Båtsman and Moses from the previous year and paved the way for further films in the series.
