Poster with a picture of Bo Widerberg taken in 1966 in connection with Heja Roland!

The film Heja Roland! (1966), directed and written by Bo Widerberg, is based on his own novel The Green Dragon . It is about Roland Jung, a young man who takes a job at an advertising agency and is assigned to do market research among young people – but who soon begins to question the agency's methods. The film premiered on 29 June 1966 in Vaxholm and in Stockholm on 19 September of the same year. Actor Thommy Berggren was awarded a Guldbagge for his role as Roland. Widerberg sits on the steps outside Vaxholm's cinema theatre where the film had its Swedish premiere.

Bo Widerberg (1930–1997) was a Swedish film director, author and screenwriter, known as one of the most important figures in modern Swedish film. He made his debut in 1963 with the film Barnvagnen and had his international breakthrough with Kvarteret Korpen (1963), which was nominated for an Oscar. Widerberg wanted to create a more realistic and socially engaged film than the one he believed was dominated by Ingmar Bergman. Among his most notable works are Elvira Madigan (1967), Ådalen 31 (1969) and Mannen på taket (1976). He also directed Lust och fägring stor (1995), which was his last film and was nominated for an Oscar. Widerberg's films are characterized by strong humanism, everyday realism and poetic imagery.
