Milestone in British bus history. On 2 October 1925, the first bus service was carried out with a double-decker bus with a roof over the upper deck. Previously, buses had no roof. It was bus number 100, which operated the Epping Town to Elephant and Castle route, and people were waiting to board at Leytonstone in east London, where the bus stopped on its maiden voyage. The bus had 10 opening windows on the new roofed upper deck, with a total of 52 seated passengers. The bus was a model LGOC, originally introduced in London in 1910 and built and operated by the London General Omnibus Company. This explains the word General on the front of the bus where the driver sits. However, strangely enough, the driver has no cabin and sits completely exposed to the elements at the wheel.
