Greta Lovisa Garbo, originally Gustafsson, born September 18, 1905 in Katarina parish in Stockholm, died April 15, 1990 in New York, USA, was a Swedish-American actress.
She was one of the biggest movie stars of the 1920s and 1930s. Garbo has been ranked as the fifth greatest Hollywood actress of all time by the American Film Institute.
Greta Garbo was also known for her shyness towards the public, something that lasted until her death. After her career took off, she never gave any interviews or signed any autographs, she never answered fan mail, and she never attended any film premieres.
The picture was taken during the filming of the film Mata Hari in 1931.
