Edvard Källström's life raft is tested in Norrström, Strömparterren in Stockholm on July 22, 1919.
The life raft was designed and manufactured at Edvard Källström's boatyard in Oskarshamn and could carry 30 people. The life raft was made of 10 mm thick pine with oiled sailcloth stretched on the outside and divided into twelve compartments by watertight bulkheads, which meant that it would not sink even if a leak occurred.
Edvard Källström was a well-known and skilled boatbuilder in Oskarshamn. He designed sailboats for the Royal Swedish Sailing Society KSSS, among other things. He operated his business in Månskensviken.
A fascinating picture of the group of brave people who dare to participate in testing whether the raft kept its promise.
