Gröna Lunds historia

The history of Gröna Lund

Truly surpasses history.

This is how you can summarize the unlikely love story between John Lindgren and Ninni Nilsson . They grew up on opposite sides of Allmänna Gränd and in separate amusement park families. John as the son of the owner of the Amusement Park, and Ninni as the daughter of the owners of Gröna Lund . The rivalry between the two fairground owners was unmistakable. Over time, they became bitter enemies and exposed each other to countless tricks, and the fight for the amusement park visitors intensified. No one knows how the romance between the two young heirs began, but they became a couple in secret, and were allowed to meet on the sly. It was not until their fathers passed away, oddly enough in the same year 1940, that they dared to come forward with their love. In December 1941 they got engaged and they got married in July of the following year.

John Lindgren. 1916-1991 with wife Ninni Lindgren at Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm. The son John from the competing amusement park Nöjesfältet on Allmänna gränd fell in love with the Gröna Lund owner's daughter Ninni. Over time, the two amusement parks became bitter enemies and rivals for amusement park visitors. It was of course not popular for the young couple to meet, which they had to do in secret. Not until their parents died did they dare to get married. However, the feud was not completely over and the plans to merge the two amusement parks did not come to fruition. Ninni instead joined her husband and Nöjesfältet, which they ran until 1957. When Ninni's mother then died, John and Ninni instead took over Gröna Lund.
