Kronblom – An odyssey in laziness and cunning
On August 18, 1947, the Swedish comedy "Kronblom" premiered at the Göta and Rialto cinemas in Gothenburg and Rio in Malmö, introducing a character who quickly became a folk icon. Kronblom, based on Elov Persson's beloved cartoon character and comic strip that was first published in the magazine Allt för alla in 1927. Kronblom is laziness personified - a man whose philosophy of life revolves around avoiding every ounce of unnecessary effort.

His favorite place is the couch , where he philosophizes on his back about life's tribulations and, with a masterful combination of cleverness and charm, ensures that tasks are solved - always through the provision of others. His genius lies in getting others to do the work without them feeling exploited, or at least not realizing it until it's too late.
Ludde Gentzel plays the role of Kronblom. Dagmar Ebbesen plays his wife Malin.
The heart of the film is Kronblom's relationship with his wife Malin, played with warmth and humor. Despite his irresistible penchant for convenience, their marriage is surprisingly harmonious, marked by mutual understanding. But the peace is disturbed by Malin's mother, played by Julia Cæsar. A grater for the mother-in-law who does not miss an opportunity to criticize her lazy son-in-law. Their clashes offer both laughter and excitement, and the mother-in-law becomes a formidable opponent who tests Kronblom's ingenuity. Artur Rolèn can be seen in one of the images, he appears in the role of Fredrik.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when Vinkelboda, the idyllic village where Kronblom lives, is hit by a gang of thieves. The villagers are in revolt, and gossip spreads like wildfire. Suspicion soon falls on Kronblom himself – his deviant lifestyle and unwillingness to work are interpreted as a cover for shady activities. His cleverness, which he himself sees as a virtue, is misinterpreted as evidence of shady dealings. At the same time, other problems arise: lawsuits are piling up at the county prosecutor's office, and Rovlund, a greedy man who holds mortgages on Kronblom's farm, is waiting for the right opportunity to strike. When the farm is threatened with being sold out from under him, Kronblom faces his biggest challenge yet.

But Kronblom wouldn't be Kronblom if he couldn't turn adversity into victory. With his inimitable blend of solid cunning and sly charm, he not only solves the urgent problems, but also manages to secure the farm - and even buy it himself. Peace is restored in the home, and in an unexpected twist, he even wins the reluctant respect of his biting mother-in-law.

"Kronblom" is a timeless portrayal of the Swedish folk soul, where humor, warmth and a touch of social criticism are woven together. The premiere on August 18, 1947 marked the start of a film that not only entertained but also cemented Kronblom as a beloved symbol of those who dare to go their own way - even if lying on the couch. With its mix of slapstick, heartfelt character dynamics and a plot that keeps the viewer engaged, "Kronblom" is a classic that still attracts laughter and reflection.
