More or less famous Swedes.
From the flow of images, I have selected some images of people that many recognize and that many do not. Remembered and forgotten, in the spotlight and in the shadows. It is the fate that has befallen many famous people. A life's work that was appreciated by many at the time, is now a scarce entry on Wikipedia.
Zarah Leander. The charismatic diva who, long after her death, still captivates with her life story. A singer and actress who still makes writers revel in her life and career. The picture from an unusual performance in Hyland's Corner in 1962. Click here for pictures of her.
Olsson with the beard. A native of Skåne who was involved in creating the first study circle at the turn of the century. A total teetotaler and education enthusiast. The picture was taken by K.G. Kristoffersson shows him on the right at the Scalateatern in Stockholm in 1947 where he greets the impersonator of the time, Lasse Krantz. Click here for pictures of him.
Moa Martinson. Always relevant and controversial. One of the most famous of the proletarian writers. People from a working class who through will and knowledge spread the message in books and short stories. A role model for many. Here on her farm in Sorunda south of Stockholm where she lived until her death. Click here for pictures of her.
Oscar Lindberg. The Swedish composer and author of the organ piece Gammal fäbodpsalm 1936. An organist and one of the founders of the Swedish Composers' Association and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. The picture from 1941 taken by K.G. Kristoffersson where he plays his self-built organ in his home. Click here for pictures of him.
Greta Garbo. Probably the most written about person in society. A young actress who quickly had enough of the spotlight. She captivated an entire film audience when the medium of film had a dominant role. A witnessed mystique still rests over her name and attracts reading. Here in the classic Swedish feature film Gösta Berling's saga based on a novel by Selma Lagerlöf. Click here for pictures of her.
Sven Salen. Already in his teens, a shipowner. Over the years, an extremely successful shipowner and founder of Salénrederierna. A business leader who, like others, has created his success through his own knowledge and will. Here in his office at Styrmansgatan 4 in Stockholm. The beautiful model of his ship Atlantique stands in a glass case in the background.
