Stockholm 1953. A mother pulls a stroller across a cobblestone street in central Stockholm in the 1950s. It is summer and she has blooming lilac branches wrapped around the stroller. The neighborhoods behind have now been demolished in connection with the demolition of the Klarakvarteren. Stockholm's city council decided that the city should be modernized, and hills and slopes leveled out. The old Klarakvarteren had to make way for the modern Stockholm city. A large part of the small town in the big city disappeared.
One who was there at the time was… Photographer KG Kristoffersson is devoting a lot of time to documenting the city this year, as Stockholm celebrates its 700th anniversary. A unique time document with hundreds of unique Stockholm motifs. Taken in the moment. Ordinary Stockholmers who don't understand at the time that their city is changing around them.
KG Kristoffersson was one of the legendary press photographers. Countless photo reports in the classic photo magazine Se, among others. We will continue the work of scanning and displaying the fantastic photo treasure he left behind.
