Poster with a picture of the sailing ship Jarramas .
In February 1900, Jarramas was launched. It was built to be used as a training ship for seamen in the Swedish navy. With a length of 39.15 meters and a weight of 350 tons, she is one of the world's smallest full-rigged ships. Jarramas was the last sailing ship to be built at the Karlskrona shipyard.
In 1946, Jarramas was taken out of service and for a while it was uncertain what would happen to her. In 1950, the old ship's boy ship was sold to the municipality of Karlskrona for 30,000 kronor, and that purchase laid the foundation for Jarramas' real fame. The ship was moved to Borgmästarefjärden in the city center. There it became a summer café and a place for very popular singing evenings. The ship became an important hub in Karlskrona and grew to become a symbol for the entire city.
In 1997, the municipality donated Jarramas to the Marine Museum. She is now located on the quay outside the museum and will likely remain an important symbol for Karlskrona for a long time to come.
