Iceman. A profession where usually a man was an iceman, delivering ice blocks to households, especially to ice cabinets. When the ice melted, a new ice block was given. It was usually companies, hotels, restaurants and finer homes that needed the ice blocks until the 1950s. The ice blocks could weigh up to 50 kg. In the cities there were companies that took up ice in the winter and stored and sold the ice blocks in the summer. This was before refrigerators made their appearance in the 1950s. Some professions have become redundant over time, iceman is one such profession. The picture was taken in Stockholm in 1932.
