In 1970, the shopping cart was an obvious part of everyday life for many Swedish women who bought food and household goods. In the picture we see a woman pushing a simple, but practical shopping cart, typical of grocery stores of the time. Made of metal, often with a red plastic handle, the shopping cart was a symbol of the growing self-service culture in Sweden. Many people drove to newly opened supermarkets, where the shopping cart made it easier to make larger purchases. It reflected a modern lifestyle where convenience and efficiency were in focus.
