The film was a success with both critics and audiences.
Mai Zetterling (1925–1994) was a Swedish actor, director and writer who made a big impression in the film world.
She broke through as an actress in Alf Sjöberg's Hets (1944), which was the starting point for a successful career in Sweden and internationally, with roles in films such as Driver dagg faller regn (1946) and the British Frieda (1947).
In the 1960s, she transitioned to directing and made her debut with Loving Couple (1964), a controversial and acclaimed film that competed at Cannes.
Other highlights include Nattlek (1966), Flickorna (1968) – which later became a feminist classic – and Amorosa (1986), a magnificent portrayal of Agnes von Krusenstjerna.
As one of the few female directors of her time, she broke new ground with her courageous and artistic filmmaking.
