First time Chinese food is served in Sweden 1944. Here at the Berns restaurant in Stockholm, Chinese food is served for the first time in a restaurant in Sweden on February 23, 1944. The actress Marguerite Viby certainly looks like she can master the cutlery from the Far East and skillfully balances the food on the chopsticks. In SvD on February 24, 1944, it is reported that Stockholm, which has so far lacked a Chinese restaurant. Berns director Folcker has four Chinese citizens under the leadership of Li Chung-Lin who serve authentic Chinese meals in one of the rooms in the restaurant, which also appears to have the right Far Eastern decorations on the walls. It is further reported that the Chinese minister and other members of the Chinese colony in Sweden were invited to an inauguration and trial dinner on Wednesday evening. The meal certainly deviates quite significantly from what we are used to here in Sweden. According to the ritual, one starts with a soup and then continues with a variety of dishes, at the inauguration dinner there were six with the traditional Chinese bowl of rice. However, it was all very delicious and no one need be afraid of not being able to eat because you are provided with both a knife and fork if you do not master the art of eating with chopsticks. The picture was published in the newspaper Veckorevyn no. 13 in 1944 with the caption: Marguerite Viby could not chew. She is already a complete master of the art and showed a carefree face for the photographer. Mr. Ling was very pleased with her.
