Ingemar Johansson world heavyweight champion 1959.

Photographer Roland Palm's real purpose for traveling to New York was to cover the title match. Johansson faced Floyd Patterson at Yankee Stadium and won the title match.

But Palm also had time to walk around New York and his photos are now time documents from a bygone era.

To show sympathy and attract attention, the elderly man stands picket outside one of the many restaurants in Manhattan; House of Chan.

The sign he has on his body tells us that the bartenders are not organized in the Bartenders Union. A police officer stands watching at the corner of 52nd Street and 7th Avenue.
