Trondheim continued to be an important academic town, with Norway's Technical University (now NTNU) since 1910. The students played an active role in society, and their demonstrations or parades were often part of the town's life and bustle.
1949 was a time when Norway was still recovering from the Second World War. This can affect the mood and message of the banner, which can reflect optimism or a willingness to move on from difficult times.
