The village of Tylorstown in the Rhondda Valley in Wales. Tylorstown was founded in the mid-19th century as a result of coal mining in the area. Because coal mining created dust that followed everyone everywhere, the proud homeowners washed both the sidewalk and the front door of their house both to look clean but to keep the dust from coming inside. Picture taken in the fall of 1945 by Kristoffersson. World War II had recently ended.
