Poster with a picture of the musical star Ulla Sallert in Madame Pompadour.

Ulla Sallert (1923–2018) was a prominent Swedish singer and actress, known as a pioneer of the musical genre in Sweden. After studying singing at the Musikaliska Akademi and debuting in the operetta Serenad in 1944 at the Oscarsteatern, she became the country's leading musical actress in the 1950s. She played leading roles in major productions such as Oklahoma , Annie Get Your Gun , My Fair Lady and Kiss Me, Kate , often at the Oscarsteatern, where she established herself as a prima donna. Her efforts contributed greatly to introducing and popularizing the American musical in Sweden, and she later became the first Swede with a leading role on Broadway in Ben Franklin in Paris (1964).
In the operetta Madame Pompadour (1958), Sallert portrayed the title role of Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, the influential mistress of Louis XV, with a blend of elegance and comic timing. The role, which required both vocal skill and stage presence, became one of her memorable performances and reflected her ability to combine the tradition of operetta with the modern expression of the musical.
Ulla Sallert's contribution to Madame Pompadour and her broader career cemented her importance as a bridge builder between genres and an icon in Swedish theater history.
